Why Is Health Insurance Needed
Not being able to pay for medical treatment is a situation nobody should have to face
Everyday illnesses are easily treated with proper care at expert facilities, but what if you don’t have access to that? A common cold or food poisoning can become very serious if not treated properly. A shoulder injured during a friendly rugby game can lead to immobility. An infected toenail can lead to blood poisoning.
Depending on the country where you live and work, you may need to consider evacuation or repatriation for serious illness or you may want to have access to private facilities to guarantee receipt of proper care. Expatriates in particular, overwhelmingly choose private care, giving their families direct access to the best medical treatment available.
But choosing private care can be expensive. Dubai, where Holborn is based, boasts some of the best medical facilities in the world, but at a premium, so high that the vast majority cannot afford it, which is where Healthcare Cover becomes important.
A healthcare policy covers you for everyday medical and GP treatments. All policies include limitations and restrictions; for example, ‘pre-existing’ medical conditions are unlikely to be covered, certain occupations are often excluded or attract surcharges, and high-risk sports aren’t usually covered, although the definition of ‘high risk’ does vary from one insurer to another.
There are a large number of international companies specialising in private health insurance. Through previous experience and the preference of our own staff Holborn mostly refers clients to BUPA, AXA and Interglobal. As with all insurance, however, you need to do your homework and check the small print, particularly regarding what is and isn’t covered.
In order to get the best possible cover for you and your family please talk to a Qualified Holborn Assets adviser before taking out a policy.
